Defining Success

Strong test scores and matriculation to college or work can be indicators of success, but they are not the sole, or even primary benchmarks against which we measure student success.

At Fusion, success is when students gain the confidence, foundational knowledge, and skills to take on new academic challenges and pursue their dreams; the curiosity to explore; a sense of their own creativity; self-awareness; a commitment to physical, social, and emotional health; and a passion to engage with community.

Initial
Assessments

After your student enrolls at Fusion, we typically provide two assessments Measures of Academy Progress (MAP®) and Mindprint. Both of these assessments help to inform instruction and serve as a basis for developing a Formal Education plan.

This unique Fusion plan focuses on leveraging a student’s strengths and supporting growth areas. As teachers get to know their students better, they have the opportunity to further personalize the classroom experience.

MAP®

The MAP® assessment is an independent assessment developed by NWEA and used worldwide. MAP® covers three areas: Language Usage, Mathematics, and Reading, and creates a personalized testing experience by adjusting questions based on a student’s ongoing performance. Fusion teachers utilize the results to gain a more accurate sense of the content a student has mastered.

Mindprint

Mindprint is a cognitive assessment that reveals why a student is performing at a certain level. This tool helps teachers understand a student’s cognitive process while working to identify where challenges might occur due to processing speed, memory, executive functions, or complex reasoning.

Fusion’s 1-to-1 Instruction Improves Student Achievement Scores

  • Fusion Academy student achievement scores grow 33% more in a school year than their peers nationally.¹
  • Fusion Academy student achievement scores in math grow 65% more in a school year than their peers nationally.¹

¹ Based on Fusion students’ year-over-year average MAP growth rate compared to the average MAP growth rate of their national grade-matched peer group.

Setting Success Goals

The Individual Reassessment of Commitment (IROC) process is one of the primary tools used to track student growth and goal attainment with full-time Fusion students. Students are encouraged to create goals for themselves at the beginning of the year that align with our School-Wide Learner Outcomes: Independent Critical Thinking, Compassion, Resourcefulness, and Emotional Security.

Impact of Personalized Learning

In Fusion Academy’s one-to-one classrooms teachers personalize the content for student strengths, interests, and learning preferences. The data below is from our student survey, which is administered when a student starts and again further into their Fusion experience. Students feel they are more engaged and have more positive relationships with their teachers in our personalized environment than in their previous school.
